Last weekend I had the privilege of leading my first trad climb. Not only that, but it was also the first true multi-pitch where I lead the entire thing. The route was called Don’t Bug Me on Jacuzzi Spires. It’s a fun 3 pitch 5.6.

Prior to doing this climb, I really didn’t have much motivation to start trad leading. I felt like I wanted to focus on just the climbing aspects rather than having to worry about placing protection. However after climbing this weekend, I’ve complete changed my view on trad climbing. It’s definitely more fun than sport. Trad climbing allows you to climb the rock however you want to, placing pro where you feel it needs to be placed rather than where the person who bolted the route felt it needed to be placed. And actually placing pro is fun in itself. Trying to find the best piece to place in a crack is almost like playing Tetris, except slightly more dangerous.

Here’s the rest of the pics from the climb.
